Some experiments that demonstrate that the TCA cycle is not linear instead a cycle are the Malonate experiments, experiments on extracts of liver and of cucumber seeds suggested cis-aconitic acid & isocitric acid are intermediates, formation of ketoglutaric acid from citrate, etc

Early organization of TCA cycle constitute of two branches, the reductive & the oxidative branch and it was used by bacteria like E.coli in various ways.

Since in the oxidation of succinate to fumarate is an integral part of the Krebs cycle it inhibits succinate dehydrogenase enzyme so that succinate is not converted to fumarate and also it inhibits the oxidation of oxaloacetate.
