Answer #1

Question 27:

Answer:

Option A. Mitochondria are used to power cells.

Explanations:

In the universal phylogenetic tree of life, there are three domains of life: Bacteria, Archaea and Eukarya. They undergo glycolysis as a part of their cellular respiration and they have RNA which can transcribe both protein and also stable RNA encoding genes. The DNA is also present in all three of these domains of life as genetic material.

BUT, Bacteria and Archaea have no membrane-bound organelles and therefore, they lack mitochondria, endoplasmic reticula, lysosomes, Golgi complexes, or chloroplasts and nuclei. Only Eukarya has membrane-bound organelles which include mitochondria which are used to power cells.

Therefore, mitochondria are not used as power cells in Bacteria and Archaea as they lack it. And therefore, Mitochondria used to power cells is not shared as a characteristic by all the domains.
