Answer #1

Daughters inherit Y chromosome genes from: Neither parents

Reason: Daughters do not have the Y-chromosome, the Y chromosome is passed exclusively from the father to the son.

Daughters inherit mitochondrial genes from: Mother

Reason: Mitochondrial DNA is exclusively maternally inherited to both sons and daughters and it is used in an analogous way to trace the matrilineal line.

Daughters inherit Z chromosome genes from: Father

Reason: In case of ZW sex-determination system, the Z come from the father just like the X in the XY sex-determination system comes from the mother.

Daughters inherit W chromosome genes from: Mother

Reason: SImilarly in the ZW sex-determination system  the W chromosome is passed exclusively from the mother to the daughter.

    9. Different genes are located on different kinds of genetic elements - autosomes, W chromosomes, the mitochondrial genome, etc. Different elements are inherited in different ways, so different offspring inherit different elements from different parents. For each case, answer "both parents', 'mother', 'father, or 'neither parents. For instance, sons inherit autosomal genes from both parents, but sons inherit W chromosome genes from neither parent (because males are ZZ, and don't have a W chromosome...) (1 point per answer) Sons inherit...

    5. Different genes are located on different kinds of genetic elements - autosomes, W chromosomes, the mitochondrial genome, etc. Different elements are transmitted in different ways, so different parents transmit different elements to different offspring. For each case, answer 'both sons and daughters, 'only sons, 'only daughters, or 'neither sons nor daughters.' For instance, fathers transmit autosomal genes to both sons and daugthers, but fathers inherit Y chromosome genes to only sons. If a parent is not expected to have...

Name Sex-linked traits are genetic char segments of DNA found on chromosomes that Sex-Linked Traits Senetic characteristics determined by genes located on sex chromosomes. Genies are and on chromosomes that carry information for protein production and that are sponsible for the inheritance of specific traits Genes exist in alternative forms called alleics. or a trail is inherited from each parent Like traits originating from genes on autosomes (non-se chromosomes), sex-linked to omosomes), sex-linked traits are passed from parents to offspring...

This are the questions you need to answer: In mammals, males often have greater variance in reproductive success than females, as a result of sexual selection. How will this alter the effective levels of allelic variation in genes on the autosomes, the X chromosome, the Y chromosome and the mitochondrial genome? What other factors may influence the genetic diversity in these different parts of the genome? Discuss this question and potential answers with one another by posting your answers on...

Look carefully at the pedigrees below and: 1) indicate whether the transmission appears autosomal or sex-linked 2) indicate whether the transmission appears dominant or recessive 3) provide at least two characteristics for each that support your conclusion. In general, the following characteristics suggest (but do not prove) specific inheritance patterns: Autosomal recessive inheritance: -affected individuals can be born to unaffected parents -if both parents are affected, all children are affected -observable effect of relatedness (consanguinity) -horizontal" inheritance: trait appears at...

In general, the following characteristics suggest (but do not prove) specific inheritance patterns: Autosomal recessive inheritance: -affected individuals can be born to unaffected parents -if both parents are affected, all children are affected -observable effect of relatedness (consanguinity) -horizontal" inheritance: trait appears at once among several members of one generation (siblings) *** Autosomal dominant inheritance each affected individual has an affected parent -when one parent is affected, transmission to the offspring (on average) *** -two unaffected parents do not transmit...

Processes that determine heredity and contribute to genetic variation  Meiosis guarantees that in a sexual life cycle, offspring will inherit one complete set of chromosomes (and their associated genes and traits) from each parent. The transmission of traits from parents to offspring is called heredity.  Another important aspect of meiosis and the sexual life cycle is the role these processes play in contributing to genetic variation. Although offspring always resemble their parents, they are genetically different from both of their...
