Answer #1

Ans. Phosphofrucrokinase catalyse the phosphorylation of fructose-6-phosphate in the glycolysis.

This enzyme catalyse the transfer of phosphosyl group / phosphate group from ATP to fructose-6-phosphate to form fructose-1,6-bisphospate. This is the main regulatory step and hence phosphofrucrokinase (PFK) is the regulatory enzyme because this enzyme is inhibited by ATP and activated by AMP. Hence when there is more available ATP in body; no need of glycolysis then the phosphofrucrokinase is inhibited. But when less/ No ATP is available; more AMP present then phosphofrucrokinase is activated and catalyse the 3rd step of glycolysis.

please explain answer Glycolysis. In the third step of glycolysis, the enzyme phosphofructokinase transfers a phosphate group from ATP to fructose-6-phophate to generate fructose- 1,6- bisphosphate. In contrast, in step 10, the enzyme pyruvate kinase transfers a phosphate group from phosphoenolpyruvate to ADP to generate ATP. Using what you know about the standard free energy change associated with phosphate bonds, (briefly) explain why we observe this difference.
