Answer #1

9) Adenine basepairs with thymine, so the number of adenine= number of thymine.

the number of adenine= number of thymine= 2000 bp

guanine base pairs with cytosine.

number of guanine + number of cytosine+ number of adenine+ number of thymine= 10000 bp

number of guanine + number of cytosine= 10000- ( number of adenine+ number of thymine)

= 10000- (2000+ 2000)

= 6000 bp

number of guanine= number of cytosine= 6000/2=3000 bp

number of adenine= 2000 bp

number of thymine= 2000bp

number of cytosine= 3000 bp

number of guanie= 3000 bp

10) guanine base pairs with cytosine.

number of guanine= number of cytosine= 4000 bp

number of guanine + number of cytosine+ number of adenine+ number of thymine= 10000 bp

number of adenine+ number of thymine = 10000 - (number of guanine + number of cytosine)

= 10000 - (4000+4000)

= 2000 bp

number of adenine= number of thymine= 2000/2=1000 bp

number of adenine= 1000 bp

number of thymine= 1000bp

number of cytosine= 4000 bp

number of guanie= 4000 bp

Each of the following statements about the structure of DNA may be either true or false. Choose the appropriate answer for each of these statements. Bonding between adenine and thymine on opposite strands involves two hydrogen bonds. Nitrogenous bases are located on the outside of the double helix: phosphates are located towards the middle of the double helix. Bonding between guanine and cytosine on opposite strands involves three hydrogen bonds. DNA and RNA are structurally different due to the difference...

Select the phrases that accurately describe properties of the most common form of the DNA double helix. There is more than one correct answer. Select all that apply. DNA contains equal amounts of adenine and thymine, and equal amounts of cytosine and guanine. A helical turn consists of about 10 nucleotides. Base pairs have a spacing of 20 A. The phosphodiester bonds between nucleotide residues run in opposite directions in the two strands. The nitrogenous bases are exposed to the solvent, whereas the sugar-phosphate backbone of...

Double stranded DNA consists of two long strands. An adenine on one strand is always paired to a thymine on the opposite strand and a guanine on one strand is always paired to a cytosine on the opposite strand. If a purified DNA has 36% thymine, what arc the percentages of the other bases? Exercise 23.6 The two sides of the DNA double helix are connected by pairs of bases (adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine). Because of the geometric shape of these molecules, adenine bonds with thymine and cytosine bonds with guanine. The figure shows the thymine- adenine bond.
