Answer:

Net movement of water is into the thistle tube as indicated by 3 up arrows and 2 down arrows.

Water moves in both direction. That is , into thistle tube and into the beaker. But effectively where into it moves more and the difference is called net movement.

If starch moves out of thistle tube, there will be change in tonicity of both solution and finally both will have same tonicity. Which result in no net movement.

Starch molecule are large enough not to pass through a differentially permeable membrane. Also the hypotonic distilled water won't allow starch to diffuse into beaker. This is because driving force of water is from hypertonic to hypertonic solution.

Water level in thistle tube rose as there is a net movement of water into thistle tube from beaker as thistle tube content is hypertonic compared to beaker.

Water moved from area of high water concentration to area of low water concentration.
