Answer #1

The correct option is A.

The main purpose of photosynthesis by plants is to make food in the form of glucose (carbohydrates). The process of photosynthesis shows how the plants use light energy to make carbohydrates from carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O). The reaction is as follows:

6CO2 + 12H2O \rightarrow C6H12O6 + 6H2O + 6O2

Option B cannot be correct because oxygen is a byproduct (oxidation product) of photosynthesis. This is evident when we compare photosynthesis of plants and bacteria. Carbohydrates are produced in both, however oxygen is produced as a byproduct (oxidation product) in plants whereas sulphur or sulphate is produced in the case of bacteria. This is because the hydrogen donor in both the cases is different. In plants H2O is the hydrogen donor whereas in bacteria is H2S usually.

Option C cannot be correct as ATP is synthesized in the process of electron transport chain which follows the process of photosynthesis.

Option D cannot be correct because carbon dioxide is not produced in the process of photosynthesis, rather it is utilized to make carbohydrates.
