What is the purpose of photosynthesis?

Question 5 options:

It produces a form of chemical energy that the plant can use as needed

It allows plants to remove excess NO2 from the atmosphere

Plants do it to produce oxygen so animals and humans can breathe

It is a way for producers and consumers to release the energy stored in sugar molecules

Answer #1

First option is Correct.

The process of Photosynthesis is a process in which green plants convert the Radiant Energy of the sun, with the help of water, Carbon Dioxide, into Carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are a kind of chemical molecules that can store energy. So radiant Energy is Ultimately stored in Chemical Energy form, which can be used when needed. Organisms release this stored chemical energy in the process of respiration.

Plants perform photosynthesis because Othey directly fuel all their cells with the high energy molecules (ATP, NADPH) that are energized during the light reactions. they have to create high energy molecules and then they send these molecules to all the parts of the plant that don't photosynthesize (like the roots) o they capture the light energy as ATP and NADPH and then use that energy to form sugar which in turn can be stored or transported to places that need...

  • How Do Chloroplasts Capture Energy from the Sun?

How Do Chloroplasts Capture Energy from the Sun? Plant cells and some algae contain an organelle called the chloroplast. The chloroplast allows plants to harvest energy from sunlight, a process known as photosynthesis. Specialized pigments in the chloroplast absorb sunlight and use this energy combine carbon dioxide and water to make glucose and oxygen. The complete reaction is: 6CO2 + 6H2O + C6H12O6 + 6O2 Raw Materials (Reactants) CO2 = carbon dioxide H2O = water Products C6H1206 = glucose O2 = oxygen Plant cells can...

FBR 4.60 Under the futureGen 2.0 project (http://www.futuregenalliance.org/) sponsored by the U.S. Department of energy, a novel proccess is used to convert coal into electricity with minimal greenhouse gas (CO2) emissions to the atmosphere. In the process, coal is combusted in a boiler with pure oxygen (O2); the heat released produces steam, which is then used for heating and to drive turbines that generate electricity. An...

Most organisms are dependent upon plants because plants produce oxygen as a by-product of photosynthesis. as producers, they form the base of food chains. they function to prevent erosion and reduce desertification. as they remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, they reduce the problems generated by the greenhouse effect. all of these apply. 2.5 points    QUESTION 2 Hover flies like to drop in at outdoor picnics to sample the sweets, but the reaction of humans is to flee the...
