A fusion proteins are a proteins formed by joining two or more gene which originally coded for separate proteins. When a protein is tagged with any other protein, it is fusion protein. For example, if you are working with a protein A, and you tagged the protein with known protein B, it is fusion protein.
Two most important uses of fusion proteins are:
1. as aids in the purification of cloned genes and as reporters of expression level; and
2. as histochemical tags to enable visualization of the location of proteins in a cell, tissue, or organism.
