Clostridium sporogenes; an obligate anaerobe. During an infection, large amount of gas accumulates in the infected tissue. Would you expect this gas to be CO2? Explain?

Answer:

Since Clostridium sporogenes; an obligate anaerobe. This means that this bacteria can not survive in the environment of oxygen and it would be killed by normal atmospheric concentrations. So, it must remain in anaerobic conditions to be able to cause infection and form gas. So, the gas would CO2.

Therefore, due to the Clostridium sporogenes being an obligate anaerobe it must be expected to produce a gas which is anaerobic. And this gas must be CO2.
