a). Based on the information, curved wing and speck body traits are recessive to their normal traits.

b). The F1 progeny is crossed with curved and speck traits is called Dihybrid testcross. According to the mendel experiments, Dihybrid testcross ratio is 1:1:1:1 if the two genes are assorted independently.. But the numbers of each phenotype is not fit into 1:1:1:1 ratio. Hence, the two genes are not assorted rather they are linked.

c).

Hint: Always recombinant progeny are less numbered.

Total this progeny = 500

The recombination frequency between h&w = (number of recombinants/Total progeny) 100

RF = (79+78/500)100 = 31.4%

Recombination frequency (%) = Distance between genes (m.u.)

So distance between the two genes = 31.4 m.u.
