Free molecules used in Biology having metal ion are :

1) Haemoglobin

It is a set of 4 porphyrin ring and at centre of every porphyrin ring there is a Fe2+ metal ion (iron metal ion ) . All four five rings are connected to each other through globin chains . Each porphyrin ring is connected to the globin chain at histidine Residue.

It is the red pigment in red blood cells in mammals.

It is Oxygen carrier for all the organs.

It picks oxygen from lungs and transfers it to tissues.

It can bind with 4 oxygen molecules

Structure of haemoglobin:

​​​​​​What it does in biological system : it acts as oxygen carrier for all organs.

2) Myoglobin

Myoglobin is present in tissues

It stores dioxygen which is used for biological activities.

It is a single unit in which a single porphyrin ring has a single Fe2+ metal ion .

It can only bind with one oxygen molecule

3)Chlorophyll

It is the green pigment present in green plants.

It contains Mg2+ metal ion( magnesium metal ion ) in chlorin ring .
