Answer #1

Answer 3-2:

The fitness of an organism of relative reproductive success and therefore is defined as the capability of an organism to leave behind number of offspring. The phenotype and genotype that survive are known to have the best fitness and thus it helps in the determination of the reproductive fitness and the ability of an organism in general.

It is useless to compare or measure the fitness between two different species because the ability of producing offspring and its number differs in different species. Each organism also has its own level of fitness based on which they reproduce and thus it is not right to compare them. For example: If we measure the fitness between fish and humans, we cannot actually draw a comparison as both are entirely different from each other. The fish produces eggs in thousands from which offspring born and the human can produce minimum one child at a time.

In the Rocky Mountains, a particular mouse species has three fur colors (brown, gray, and white) that are controlled by two alleles (B and b) that display incomplete dominance. Scientists studying these mice conducted a survey to determine what proportion of the population displays each fur color. During the first study year, the area that was sample was largely composed of rocky outcroppings covered in a gray-brown lichen. One year later the scientists resampled this population. In this second survey,...

PHASE 2 FITNESS CENTER Allen Goldschmidt loves exercise and fitness. At age 42 he survived a cardiac scare in which doctors first believed a heart attack had taken place. Even though subsequent tests determined such was not the case, Allen was told that being overweight and in poor physical condition might at some point lead to an actual episode. In response, he moved from a sedentary lifestyle to an activity-based approach to keeping trim and healthy. After several months of...

DNA STRUCTURE Imagine two species, X & Y. Each species is haploid and has a single chromosome of 10,000 base pairs (bp or 10 kbp). You are analyzing their DNA, and you find that 2 kbp of species X are adenine and 4 kbp of species Y are guanine. Use this information to answer the following questions: 9. For species X, how many kbp of DNA there are for each of the four nitrogenous bases: adenine (A), thymine (T), guanine...

Evolution ; You observe two species of snakes that each has bright yellow markings on its sides. In one species only the females have the bright coloration. Bright coloration makes snakes more visible to predators. A) Given only this information in which species would you predict that males and females contribute more equally to the costs of reproduction and why? B) For the species that experiences less equal investment in reproduction draw a graph that relates the number of matings...
