First residue hydrogen bonded to 5th residue ( that is, residue n is h bonded to residue, n+4)

All NH groups point same direction

(The stable arrangement of alpha helices is possible due to the Hydrogen bond present after 4 residues away in an alpha helices.)

successive R groups point in the opposite directions

(This gives them a zig zag structure)

first residue H bonded to the 4th residue( residue n is H bonded to residue n+3)

(The main chain here has hydrogen bond between amino group and carbonyl group after 3 residues)

contains -NH hydrogen bonded to C=O
