Question

The truss is to be analyzed assuming the two loads shown are each 80 kips. By analyzed I mean that reactions at supports are to be determined and the forces (magnitude and sense) acting internally in each member are to be determined. Once forces are known, the members are to be designed -that is, the cross sectional area required determined-based on the following specifications: .Dimensions: Overall height is 15 feet, bottom chord has 4 spaces at 12 ft (48 ft total) A36 Steel is assumed for all members . Tension members designed in accordance with CH 9 -11 in the Limbrunner text: Base allowable stress on yield strength and a FS 1.25. Ignore stress concentrations. o First pass, FS 2.5 and based on the principles of CH9-11. Additionally, elongation of all members is limited to 0.001 x Lmember . Compression members o 2nd pass based on the principles in CH 18 real columns, K-1 see below 1. Reactions 2. Method of joints used to solve entire truss 3. Method of sections used to find the force in members CD, GH, CH as a check 4. Sample calculation for the Areqd of at least one tension mermber ( satisfies σα and 5. Sample calculation for the Areqaa of at least one compression member (satisfies aal and a Excel should be used to tabulate forces, assist with repetitive design calculations, and report final designs. See page 2. Cut and Paste into excel to get started. Select square HSS for each member. Then calculate actual stress and elongation. https://steeltubeinstitute.org/hss/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2016/06/V3-ASTM-Dimensions-Section- Properties.pdf Load the truss into WINTRUSS and check your work. Enter the proper material properties for each member Enter 0.1 in2 for the area of each member. I need help with the manual calculations. I need to solve via “the pitch” method. Thank you
