Stabilizing selection describes changes in population genetics in which intermediate values(non-extreme) for a trait are favored over extreme values.When intermediate sized(neither large nor small) sized bees become abundant, then it will favor intermediate sized flowers leading to stabilizing selection. It eliminates extreme sized flowers; just the opposite of disruptive selection.
Directional selection describes changes in population genetics in which one particular extreme value for a trait is favored over all other values.When large sized bees (one particular extreme value) become abundant then it will favor large flower sizes over other sizes leading to directional selection.The same can happen if small sized bees become abundant.
