Answer #1

Answer- a. Increase of carbon dioxide concentration

The strongest stimulus to initiate breathing is increase in carbon dioxide contration.

H+ ion is the most potent stimulus for central chemoreceptors. It is produced from CO2 by action of carbonic anhydrase.

CO2 is direct stimulus for peripheral chemoreceptors. Hence, both central and peripheral chemoreceptors together initiate strongest stimulus for breathing.
