Cones are associated with color vision.

Cones function in brighter lights.

The Retina contain two types of photo receptors rods and cones, the rods are more numerous (around 120 million) and are more sensitive than cones but they are not sensitive for color, the rods are more concentrated in the central yellow spot known as Macula. Cones contains color receptors and they are more concentrated in Fovea centralis where rods are absent. Fovea centralis is the spot of highest visual acuity or resolution in the eye.
