Answer #1

The six focal points discussed by Miller are trouble, toughness, smartness, excitement, fate and autonomy. This would mean that youth are characterized by risk taking mind-set, pleasure seeking attitude, impulsive behaviors and breaking the rules. They were always like that but their behaviors would be controlled and shaped by the culture they live in. Thus, whether they would become rebellious or non-conforming would depend on their parenting, education, social status and personality type. Others who feel oppressed and do not have any life choices engage in non-conforming acts.
