Answer #1
  • To find the absorbance of the solutions you can use a colorimeter or uv visible spectrophotometer after adding a suitable colouring agent.
  • A calibration graph can be plotted using the concentration of salicyate complex on the x-axis and absorbance obtained on the y-axis.
  • From the absorbance obtained for unknown, concentration can be determined by drawing a line to x-axis (concentration axis).

Hello, I need help with the equations needed to find the pH of and the concentrations of the major species in a solution of 0.0150M sodium acetate. Include activity coefficients where appropriate. Reduce the equations from before into a single equation with the [H3O+] as the only unknown quantity. Use “F” as the formal concentration of the solution and you may neglect activities in this part of the calculation. Do not make any further simplifying assumptions.

PROBLEM: Predict the molar absorptivity value of copper sulfate pentahydrate at 380 nm. Here's what I think I have to do: I think I need to use beer's law. Abs=ebc; e=Abs/bc. b is 1.66 cm. I think c is .400 M NiSO4, but I'm not sure. I also think Abs is 0.758 given the graph. (If wavelength is 380 nm, then it should be between 0.598 and 0.798, right?) My answer is 1.14 L/mol*cm, but not sure if I am...
