Example: American business culture is very different from Chinese business culture. Firstly, the Chinese seek to build trust and long-term relationships rather than merely to seek out immediate opportunities. Americans accustomed to constant networking may not be sensitive to this. Additionally, you should follow Chinese business etiquette when at a business meeting with Chinese business people. Businessmen and businesswomen are expected to dress conservatively in dark or neutral colors, and women's apparel should be modest. You should also avoid persuasive rhetoric when speaking with Chinese people, and instead adopt the Chinese negotiating style. Basically, Chinese trading partners should be approached through their trusted intermediaries. Americans should remain formal in their communications; too much casual or personal bantering is considered disrespectful.

Required: Given the growing importance of international trade, you can approach this forum in a variety of ways. One is to address differences in business culture between the US and another country. In particular, pointing out behaviors that US business people should avoid, lest they offend a potential customer in another country, or behaviors that would help facilitate a transaction. Japanese business culture is mostly polychronic times, i.e people are mostly into multi tasking. They do not give more importance to deadlines. They prefer unstructured work rather than planning everything and working according to that. Japanese have a high context culture where group work is considered to be very important. But they use strict mono chronic time while dealing with foreigners and in handling their technology. The Japanese work space is more communal and the work space is not usually separated. They do not have closed offices, instead they have their desks in the middle of their action. This supports the polychronic nature where work is constantly juggles. They have a non confrontational style of communication where they rely more on non verbal indications like tone of conversation, facial expressions. They consider confrontational conversation to be disruptive.
