Answer #1

Answer (a)

Normal time = observed time * performance rating

Hence, Normal time = [first observed time * performance rating for all cycles] + [observed cycle post eight cycles * performance rating post eight cycles]

= [4.8 * (0.90)] + [2.0 * (1.20)/8 ] = 4.32 + 0.3 = 4.62 min

Answer (b)

Standard time = Normal time * (1+ Allowance factor)

Standard time = 4.62 * ( 1+ 0.15) = 5.313 min

Answer (c)

Standard hours = 123 * (5.313) = 653.499 min = 653. 499 / 60 hours = 10.89165 hours

Worker efficiency = 10.89165 / 8.0 = 1.36145625 = app. 136.15%

A rider lawn mower is produced on a manual assembly line. Work content time=49.5 min. The line has 25 workstations with a manning level = 1.2. Available shift time per day = 8 hr, but equipment downtime during the shift reduces actual production time to 7.5 hr on average. This results in an average daily production of 244 units/day. Repositioning time per worker = 5% of cycle time. Determine (a) line efficiency, (b) balancing efficiency, and (c) repositioning time.
