37. Enzymes that use an ordered sequential kinetic model generally bind substrates through induced fit to bring the catalytic residues into alignment by inducing conformational changes. They also alter the local environment and position the substrate for catalysis. It is also a key indicator of the enzyme specificity which is directly measured by the rate at which the enzyme bounds to the substrate and releases it. It also indicates whether the reaction is forward or backward. The slow release of substrate makes a reaction forward. Conformational change acts as a molecular switch to favour the selection of right substrate and disfavour the reaction of an incorrect one.
