SEVERAL FACTORS INFLUENCE EITHER EXPERT PERFORMANCE OR THE DEVELOPMENT OF EXPERTISE. DISCUSS HOW PERSONALITY AND SELF-EFFICACY AFFECTS TH DEVELOPMENT OF EXPERTISE.
Answer-
The development of any form of expertise requires years of hard work, efficiency, and talent. An expert always seeks to improve his/her knowledge base and skills to sustain their expertise. While several other factors contribute to the development of expertise, personality, and self-efficacy are two important components that play a vital role in the same.
Personality-
Personality plays a crucial role in the trajectory of one's expertise. The personality of an individual has a significant impact on their behavior, views, and perception. If an individual's personality isn't quite right, it could interfere with their skills, thereby negatively affecting their performance. For example- A person with an optimistic personality may look at his/her failures as opportunities to work harder. While on the other hand, a person with a pessimistic personality may view the same failures as missed opportunities. In this situation, one gets motivated to work harder on their craft, and the other gets discouraged.
Self-efficacy-
Self-efficacy is the belief one has in his/her performance. When one is confident in his/her craft, their approach to a task is highly affected. According to the self-efficacy theory, a person's conviction in his/her ability to perform a task eventually becomes a primary belief. This belief then turns into an explicit explanation for motivation, which is highly important for the development of any expertise.
