Answer #1

A. having idle servers and waiting customers at the same time

The basic idea of having a separate queue system is that the waiting time is reduced and the servers are utilized efficiently. However, if the servers are idle and the waiting customers are present in the queue, both at the same time, then the idea of having a separate queue fails and indicates therefore an inefficiency in the system.

A system has a common checkout line for customers to wait to be served by one of four servers. Ignoring the time to walk from the queue to the server, what is the steady state utilization? Is the system stable?

**LOOKING FOR FORMULAS, ANSWERS PROVIDED. Problem-1: At a single-phase, multiple-channel service facility, customers arrive randomly. Statistical analysis of past data shows that the interarrival time has a mean of 20 minutes and a standard deviation of 4 minutes. The service time per customer has a mean of 15 minutes and a standard deviation of 5 minutes. The waiting cost is $200 per customer per hour. The server cost is $25 per server per hour.
