ANS: EPA ( Environmental Protection Agency) constituted certain methods and regulation for disposal of hazardous waste in the environment which can be harmful to human health as well as to the environment. This includes title 40 which is Protection of environment.

Part 268 - Land disposal restrictions

Purpose - This part identifies hazardous waste that are restricted from land disposal and provides limited circumstances by which this restricted waste can be disposed to the land.

Hazardous wastes includes Halogenated organic compounds or HOC ( these are the compounds contain hydrogen-carbon bond), Debris ( solid material greater than 60mm ), Inorganic metal bearing waste

Dilution is prohibited as a substitute for treatment for; waste contains hazardous organic constituents exceeding the standard level, waste containing organic debris like material, the waste contains greater than 1% total organic carbon (TOC)

Some wastes which are prohibited from land disposal may be treated in a surface impoundment.

The waste require treatment before disposal.
