Answer #1

material: sterile media: nutrient agar plates              (3) divide the petri dish into four parts to test each bathroom cleaner in each part and one for control.

                                 sterile swabs                        (3)

sterile bathroom cleaner samples         (5mL each)

sterile circular absorbent paper disk      (5- 4 for cleaners and 1 for control)

                                culture of S.aureus.

miscellanoeus: bunsen flame

                     alcohol beaker

                    tweezer

Method used : disk diffusion method. first swab the plates with S.aureus culture under sterile conditions.

dip the disc into each of the cleaner solutions under antiseptic conditions.

using a tweezer place the disc containing the soaked bathroom cleaner onto the center of each quadrant with respective labelling of the cleaner.

on control plate swab the S.aureus culture and place a disc dipped in sterile water.

incubate the plates at 37oC for 24 hrs.

after 24 hrs measure the zone of inhibition around the bathroom cleaners and measure the zone of inhibition.

NEISSERIA EXPERIMENT MICROBIOLOGY LAB (Revised March 2016) Background There are two main pathogens in the genus Neisseria: N.gonorrhoeae and N meningitidis, along with many species which are normal flora for mucus membranes like the nasopharynx, vagina, urogenital tract, etc. In order to diagnose gonorrhea in a male, a Gram stain of the urethral discharge should reveal Gram negative diplococci and many white blood cells. This is considered sufficient grounds to treat for gonorrhea. In a female, diagnosis must be based...

In restaurants, most food contact surfaces are smooth and lack cavities/pores in their surface. What is the advantage of that for microbial control? If soaps are not powerful at killing microbes, why are they used...

Hello, I did a lab about the foraging behavior of fruit flies (Drosophila melanogaster). Where an experiment was conducted to see whether fruit flies (starved for 12 hours, only water was given) would prefer Real Banana V.S. Banana-flavoured Sucrose. The results I got were 88 picked banana, 23 picked banana sucrose and 29 picked both. The hypothesis I stated is that there is NO difference in foraging behavior of flies but that is obviously incorrect, ---------- SO HERES MY QUESTIONS...
