(2.02 HC) In an organism, some cells may have more ribosomes than others.

1. Describe one way in which ribosomes interact with organelles.
2. How would having a larger number of ribosomes benefit a cell? In your answer, describe the specialized function of ribosomes and how they help an organism carry out essential life processes.

1) in a cell normally ribosome present in free floating form. These are membrane less organelles. In a cell ribosome can be present in bind with Endoplasmic reticulum or with nucleus.

In cell it interact with ER, synthesized secretory protein. Ribosome attach with ER at sophisticated pore known as a translocon.

These translocons are tiny docking stations present on rough ER surface. During proteins synthsized by ribosome, the translocon opens and  created protein enter  into the pore of the endoplasmic reticulum. translocon pore only opens if it recognizes a special sequence of amino acids that ribosomes use to start a newly created protein. In this way during transport of protein in the ER lumen it attach ribosome to ER during protein synthesis.

2) Ribosomes are abundant in cells. Actively replicating eukaryotic cell, may contain huge no approximate million ribosomes. Number of ribosomes is dependent on cellular activity. Cells involved in higher growth and acivity has high no of ribosome. High no of ribosomes, synthesized large no of mRNA and protein thus supported growth of cell.
