When a molecule loses electrons to another molecule or atom,that molecule has been Oxidized. The electron acceptor molecule has then gained two electrons and is said to have been Reduced.

  • Oxidation is loss of electrons during a reaction by a molecule,atom or ion.Oxidation occurs when oxidation state of a molecule,atom or ion is increased.
  • Reduction is the opposite process of oxidation.Reduction occurs when there is gain of electrons or oxidation state of a molecule,atom or ion decreases.
