There is this question that came in a quiz, it says:

What does it mean when your TA asks you to ''balance your tubes'' Why is it important?

My answer was:

''Is to balance the centrifuge machine by linning the tubes to balance the weight & thus the pressure would be equl and correct centrifugation would take place''

Unfotunately he deducted marks and noted me to provide more details.

So, what could be a complete answer to that question.

Answer #1

Imbalance in the centrifuge tubes will cause the centriguge core to break. In centrifuge, the tubes will be spinning at high RPMs , the G force attributed to each tube in the centrifuge can change drastically even with a small weight imbalance.

So balancing the tubes in the centrifuge is important to the proper functioning of the centrifuge.
