What can nonverbal facial expressions and eye movements communicate? Discuss a situation you’ve experienced where the non-verbal behavior did not seem to match the speech or communication act. What can happen when there is discord between spoken and non-verbal communication?
1st part:
Exactly non-verbal expression of some facial prospects and movements of the eye cannot be determined any communication at any instant, but it can be predicted that a situation related to any positive or negative aspects may result in the final outcome.
2nd part:
Situation: Non-verbal behavior
It has happened during the report card distribution ceremony, the
teacher was behaving non-verbally very aggressively. The students
and the parents were present in the auditorium got completely
scared by the non-verbal expression of the teacher. The teacher was
showing a height of attitude without saying a single word to the
students and was remained busy in arranging the report card
respective to the rank order.
Finally, the time came when the teacher started to call the
students to name one after another and has announced with a joy in
the speech that made all the students surprised by seeing the
expression of the teacher. The result on an average was outstanding
and the student present in the auditorium had performed
tremendously in the examination. These replicate that sometimes
scary non-verbal expression may not bring the negative outcome, it
depends on the person who is behaving non-verbally. In this case,
it has shown the opposite and does not match with the verbal
communication act that was shown after the non-verbal behavior.
3rd part:
When discord occurs between non-verbal and spoken communication, it
does not create any major differences. The reason is, when some
words are not spoken or no verbal communication occurs, everything
the audience understands is based on the prediction. The prediction
changes and varies from one person to another person, and during
the real verbal communication the prediction idealized may match or
may not match. It does not create any impact on the audiences and
nothing specific may happen as in non-verbal communication the
audiences decide the upcoming speech on their self-prediction that
may not have any real verbal spoken similarity respective to
communication.
