Give definition for Decision Support Systems and describe its different components.

Solution:

Decision support is system is a computer application which helps an organization in decisions and makes the management easy. A decision support system is used in most of the organizations these days to manage large amount of people and teams.

The components of decision support system are given below:

1. Decision support system database: The database is an important component of DSS, important data is stored inside like internal data of the organization and also the data which is mined from the Internet.
2. Sensitive Analysis Model: This model is always used for the backup plans, like when there is a failure of power or what if the project is not on track towards the deadline.
3. Forecasting Models: This model contains various techniques including regression model. To predict the future based on the data available so that the risk can be minimized.
4. DSS User Interface: The user interface is also the part of the DSS which makes it easy to use the system, it is the front end of the DSS which communicated between the user and the DSS.
5. Statistical Model: They contain a wide range of statistical functions, such as mean, median, mode, deviations etc. These models are used to establish, relationships between the occurrences of an event and various factors related to that event. It can, for example, relate sale of the product to differences in area, income, season, or other factors. In addition to statistical functions, they contain software that can analyze series of data to project future outcomes.
