The three defense mechanism used by the prey to avoid being detected by predators are:

  1. Chemical Defense: Many species such as dart frog use chemical defense system in which they produce chemical substance such as toxins which prevent from being a food to the other animals.
  2. Camouflage: Camouflage is a widely used defense mechanism used by almost all animals somehow. Some of the reptiles even change their color to suit the surroundings that they live in.
  3. Mimicry: Some of the prey use mimicry to prevent being detected by the predators. They usually mimic an altogether different organism which is generally poisonous or deadly so that predator will not attempt to eat them.
