You have read the Chinua Achebe novel, Things Fall Apart. Even though Achebe published it in 1962, it reflects the events and movements in West Africa from the 19th to early 20th centuries. Your job is to describe four scenes in the novel where you individuals are torn between accepting the new and retaining and retaining the old. 

These changes may refer to the new imposed by the colonial power or those imposed by nature or the community. You don’t necessarily need to quote here. You need to describe scenes. Spread your scenes throughout the novel: one in the first third, one in the second third, one in the third, and one from anywhere else. For each scene, describe the characters in the scene. At what stage of the novel does the scene occur? What are they doing or thinking about? What conflict or turmoil are they experiencing? How do they resolve the conflict or turmoil? How does the resolution reflect the overall outcome of the novel? 

Recommendation for structure: 

Each scene should be about 2 paragraphs in length, one descriptive, the other about the conflict or turmoil.
