For a different experiment you are growing up Saccharomyces cerivisiae instead of E.coli. The measured OD is 0.89. A) In order to calculate the concentration of the Saccharomyces cerivisiae culture, can you use the equation that you use to calculate the concentration of an E.coli culture? If yes or no, give a detailed explanation. B) Does E.coli or Saccharomyces cerivisiae have a shorter generation time? Give a detailed explanation!

Answer #1

A. The equation used to calculate the concentration of saccharomyces cervisea culture is same as bacteria.Normally Beers law is used to calculate concentration from absorbance.Beers law states that concentartion is directly prpotional to absorbance.

B. E.coli has a shorter generation time than yeast. E.coli generation time is 20 miutes and yeast generation time is 80 minutes. Time required for the organism to doubling in a cetain time period is called generation time.

please use these results of a growth curve experiment to answer the following questions Questions 1) Plot the OD600 readings and cell concentration for each time point on a scatterplot with a line connecting the points. Have the measured data (OD600 and cell concentration) on the y-axis against the time on the x-axis using Excel (or other computer based data/graphing program). It is helpful to set the y-axis on a log scale for the cell concentration measurements. 2) Can you...

A friend of yours asks you to help him/her draw two bacterial growth curves. He/she gives you the following information: the TA started both cultures (one was labeled culture X and the other culture Y) at 8:30am using the same overnight culture to inoculate fresh medium. After inoculation of the medium the OD was 0.14 for both cultures and both cultures were incubated at 37 oC. During class the following OD readings were obtained: for culture X: 0.19 at 9:50am,...

In this experiment, you will measure the rate of photosynthesis in isolated chloroplasts using the dye 2,6-dichloroindophenol (DPIP). The transfer of electrons during the light-dependent reaction results in the production of H+. This H+ ion can reduce DPIP, changing its color from blue to clear. The color can be quantitatively measured with a spectrophotometer. However, in this experiment, you will qualitatively analyze your data. Write a detailed conclusion for your experiment. How did light affect the time it took for...

In this experiment you will make a set of solutions containing different concentrations of CV+ by mixing different volumes of a stock CV+ solution with water to give final volumes of 3.0 mL. The stock solution of CV+ has a concentration of 2.0x10^-5M and is dark purple. Use C1V1=C2V2 to calculate the volume of the stock 2.0x10^-5 M CV+ AND the volume of water to make a 3.0 mL sample of 4.0x10^-6 M CV+. Show calculations.

e this experiment follows a modified procedure designed to demonstrate only the lag and log phases by using an indirect method foe measuring growth. The indirect method is based on atisie at intervals during the incubation period. Such a procedure does not lend itself to a regular laboratory curve will be plotted usin appears cloudier as the bacteria increase in number by cell division. A tube of bacte- r can measure the n liquid culture, the medium amount of light...
