Stephen Hall Wrestles with His Resume

Stephen Hall is a 25 yearold with an entrepreneurial dream and an eclectic background. His dream is to start a travel agency that specializes in sportsrelated trips. These would include travel packages to attend professional sports events throughout the world and multicountry tours that are built around specific sporting competitions. Stephen knows there are travel agencies that already do this, but he feels it is a growing market and his knowledge of sports and his ability to work well with customers should help him be successful. He estimates he needs $150,000

to start this business, most of which will go into marketing expenses. His father has agreed to give him $50,000 and now he is writing a plan to show to potential investors.

Stephen’s background includes interest and experience in many sports. He was an excellent wrestler in high school and college where he majored in computer science and graduated with a 2.8 gradepoint average. After graduating, he worked at a storefront travel agency that had no particular specialty. He currently is a customerservice rep for a regional airline at the major airport near his home. While in high school and college, Stephen held many parttime jobs including running the deepfat fryer in a fast food restaurant, working for a moving company, and being a security guard at a movie theater.

Without overstating his qualifications, Stephen wants to point out his knowledge, relevant work experience, and personal skills that will make potential investors confident in supporting his venture. But he feels somewhat defensive talking about his background. His school career was not stellar and his jobs have been largely minimum wage and clerical.

Stephen is considering not including a resume in his plan and avoiding discussion of his own background in the text of his business plan. He is also wonders if there is some way to define his business strategy that would better match his qualifications or if he can describe his experience and skills in the best light without exaggerating.

Answer #1

Playing the role of a potential investor, what do you consider Stephen’s strengths and weaknesses?

Stephen Hall, as an investor, has the following strengths and faults:

Forces: Force:

1. Stephen is from the world of sports and that will help him attract the customer's attention to the company 's role. It will help him to connect easily with customers ' demands.

2. Stephen has worked at a store travel agency and he therefore knows how to plan and deal with tour packages. In addition, his experience will help him customize the tour according to the customer group.

3. Since Stephen serves a regional airline on the main airport as a customer service rep, he knows how to deal with the customer and finalize his deal. In addition, he knows the various needs and expectations of the service providers' customers.

4. Quoting Stephen's experience, he knows well which respects customers most when it comes to the services when planning an outdoor trip.

Failures:

1. Stephen plans a highly concentrated business plan that definitely restricts the type of customers he will receive. Many consumers schedule a group tour and these tours are primarily targeted at vacation destinations and not sporting events.

2. In his previous experiences, Stephen had no management positions and is therefore obliged to take training in the specialty business category.

3. The problem for Stephen is investment restriction. He has a small investment amount and will borrow the higher amount, valued at $150000. This is only an estimate and the investment can go beyond what is required.

WhatkindofresumeshouldStephenprepare?

Stephen's CV will include the business management management, which will include a strategic strategy, organizational strategy , marketing strategy and financial strategy. The flow chart for the different processes and activities to be performed should also be included. It should also be mentioned in the curriculum vitae of the estimated loan and the estimated allocation of resources. In short, the strengths of Stephen and the strategies to resolve these shortcomings will be emphasised. The organizational chart should also be included.

Write a one paragraph description of Stephen that stresses how his qualifications and abilities could make this venture successful.

Stephen holds a degree in computer science and knows the technicalities of a business plan. He can follow the specialized training for the aspects which he does not know. He is willing to invest $50,000, so he is more serious about this project and doesn't work on the basis of the test or the error. He has an experience and is interested in many sports, which emphasizes his knowledge of different sports and helps to explain different packages to customers. Since he has worked in a shop department, Stephen knows the preparation process for a tour and the consumer expectations.

As Stephen serves as customer service representative for a regional airline at the main airport, the customer's feelings and doubts are easy to understand and more respectfully help with their questions. Quoting Stephen's other experiences in the fast-food and working for a moving company and becoming a security officer in a film theater suggests that he is a hard-working person with outstanding skills in working in the industry and coping with the variety of customers simultaneously.

Stephen's qualities will definitely help him draw the customers and set the company properly.
