Benzoic acid (Pka =4.20) is strong acid then water (Pka = 15.7) , so it will get dissolved in water and wash away. Also benzoic acid is polar so you should wash it in a non polar solvent (like acetone , ether etc ) or you just take ethanol and warm the salt of benzoic acid till it dissolves and then cool it to precipitate the salt after that just dry it in air to get pure product. As you know ethanol is a polar covalent solvent so it would take care of both polar and non -polar impurities.

You have 100 mL of a solution of benzoic acid in water; the amount of benzoic acid in the solution is estimated to be about 0.30 g. The distribution coefficient of benzoic acid in diethyl ether and water is approximately 10. Calculate the amount of acid that would be left in the water solution after four 20-mL extractions with ether. Do the same calculation, using one 80-mL extraction with ether, to determine which method is more efficient.
C. Interestingly, when compared to benzoic acid, p-methoxybenzoic acid is less acidic and m- methoxybenzoic acid is more acidic. Please explain how the location of the methoxy groups influences the pka of each isomer relative to benzoic acid using drawings and a minimum amount of words. TIP: How stable is each conjugate base? What is or isn't stabilizing it? TIP #2: EAS/Aromaticity has nothing to do with it. Meo OME increasing acidity
A chemistry graduate student is given 450.mL of a 0.70M benzoic acid HC6H5CO2 solution. Benzoic acid is a weak acid with =Ka×6.310−5. What mass of KC6H5CO2 should the student dissolve in the HC6H5CO2 solution to turn it into a buffer with pH =3.79? You may assume that the volume of the solution doesn't change when the KC6H5CO2 is dissolved in it. Be sure your answer has a unit symbol, and round it to 2 significant digits.
What mass of sodium benzoate should you add to 150.0 mL of a 0.14 molL−1 benzoic acid solution to obtain a buffer with a pH of 4.25? For benzoic acid, Ka=6.3×10−5.
12) Water was found to be a suitable solvent for recrystallization of benzoic acid. How should the solution of benzoic acid be prepared during the recrystallization? a. by dissolving the solid in a maximum volume of the boiling solvent b. by dissolving the solid in a minimum volume of the boiling solvent C. by adding 10 ml of hot solvent, in small portions to the solid and stirring until the solid dissolves x d. by adding 10 ml of the...

How do you determine the partion coefficent experimentally for benzoic acid? Please provide an example.

An unknown mixture (dissolved in diethyl ether) contains only 2 of the following : benzoic acid, phenol, aniline and napthalene. You use the acid-base extraction method and want to identify the 2 compounds in your original mixture. 1) To separate the organic acid you add NaOH and to separate the organic base you add HCl.In both cases these extractions are followed by extractions with water. Why do we add water? Why is this step important? (A clear explanation please). 2)When...
What mass of sodium benzoate should you add to 140.0 mL of a 0.15 mol/L benzoic acid solution to obtain a buffer with a pH of 4.25? For benzoic acid, Ka= 6.3 • 10^-5
