LinkedIn is one of a kind professional social networking platform has over approx 106 million active monthly users and it is used by professionals and corporate to build their personal as well as corporate brand online and connect with millions of other professionals. The company has uniquely positioned itself as the only platform worthy of professional networking. Along with professionals, it also serves corporate and even charges for providing certain premium services. The revenue model of LinkedIn can be divided into two parts: Business solutions and Premium subscriptions. It has also expanded its business model through many acquisitions.
Freemium model involves offering your product, usually a web service, application, or access to content, for free, and encouraging users to pay an optional fee to get a premium version of the product that is unavailable to the users who use the basic version.
For a service that are new to the market, offering a freemium version can be quick way to drive trial because of the low barrier to entry. A freemium model can help companies to get faster recurring revenue and profit growth than any other paid-only model.
Drop box, Skype, and LinkedIn, I generally use these platforms. Freemium allows me to first use the service and then pay for it if you want to add some extra features. For students freemium revenue model is accurate. When I was using LinkedIn 4 years ago first time, I only use the free or basic version for 2 years because at that time I only needed that much features.
