Induced pluripotent stem cells represent an important therapy for diseases that result in cellular loss (e.g. Alzheimer’s Disease). Why wouldn’t induced pluripotent stem cells be useful for the treatment of cancer?

Reprogramming the adult somatic cells to become like embryonic stem cells (induced pluripotent stem cells, iPSCs) through the introduction of embryonic genes is a new advance in stem cell research. Thus, a source of cells can be generated that are specific to the donor, thereby increasing the chance of compatibility, if such cells were to be used for tissue regeneration. The iPSCs can also be an effective treatment option for the Alzheimer's disease, and other degenerative disorders.

This approach is not suitable for cancer therapy because of the potential risks of occurrence of mutations. The major disadvantage of this method is, the risk of developing cancer due to mutations.
