Answer #1

Description of the learning activity: I observed the various activities of patient service in the registration department of a hospital. A patient visits the registration department. The receptionist at the registration department fills out the registration form in a computer terminal. The patient data like illness, lab test, consulting physician, consultation fee, history of examination, nature of disease, symptoms, appointment details etc. are recorded in the patient registry system and stored in the hospital database. A token is issued to the patient after the formal registration process is completed. This is done for patients visiting the hospital for the first time. Repeat patients show their ID or token to get quick consultation with their physician.
What have you learned? I learned that the patient service registration is used to determine the clinical procedures, nature of the disease, history of treatment given, medicines prescribed to the patients, improving the quality of healthcare to the patients, cost-effectiveness, assessing the harm or safety measure, various measurements, establishing standards and observe the disease course.
Has this described any future learning needs? The patient registry system helps to measure the quality of care provided at the hospital through customer feedback. This helps in improving the quality of healthcare in the hospital in the near future. In the future, a patient registry is used to study the effectiveness of the physician in diagnosing the disease and providing relief to the patients. The medicines prescribed to the disease and their effectiveness can also be evaluated by looking at the disease treatment details in the patient registry. This detail about medicines in the patient registry is very helpful for a pharmaceutical device or drug manufacturer to determine the performance of their product.
General comments: I observed that the hospital administration follows the FDA standards in the online patient registration system and storage of patient records.
