Trachea is the windpipe which is made of tracheal rings. It is a cartilaginous structure is essential for connecting the larynx to the lungs and allows passage of air. The rings are incomplete in form except the first one which is cricoid cartilage attaching the first ring to the trachea. The rest are more flexible as they are attached by trachealis muscles which joins the two ends and individual rings connect with each other vertically by fibrous connective tissue called annular ligaments of the trachea. So tracheal cartilage forms the rings along with annular ligaments holding them in place.
. Which connective tissue forms the rings that hold the trachea open?
