Answer #1

Since Carboxylic acid contains carbonyl group whereas alcohol do not contain carbonyl group . So in IR absorption band carboxylic acids gives intense peak of carbonyl group at 1760-1690 cm inverse , moreover carboxylic acids give very broad band in the region 3300- 2500 cm inverse centred at 3000 cm inverse.

In alcohol IR spectra do not show intense absorption peak of carbonyl group . The O-H stretch of alcohols appears at 3500- 3200 cm inverse, moreover it will show C-O stretch at 1260- 1050 cm inverse.
