Kidneys plays a vital role in maintaining the water and electrolyte balance. It maintain water and electolyte balance by removing the excess amount of water and electrolyte from the blood and excrete it into the urine.

Kidneys interact with circulatory system i.e. Blood. Blood passes through the kidneys and excess amount of water and sodium are removed from the blood. This activity is done by the kidney with the help of adrenal glands as a part of endocrine system.

Kidneys secrete renin that acts on renin angiotensin system to control the blood pressure.

Kidneys remove the waste products from the body that includes urea, uric acid, creatinine through urine.

It also maintain the acidbase balance through nephrons and collecting tubules.
