What, if any, solutions are there to combatting poverty? What do you think the reason is poverty continues to exist in the US?
Poverty is the lack of means to fulfill basic necessities of life. Poverty alleviation can be done through various ways. One way is to provide subsidies, and handouts to the poor. This is short term solution to counter extreme deprivation. Another method is to create employment programmes, wherein the poor are asssured to get employment subject to a minimum wage. In the long term, however, the solution to poverty is to improve education, and enrolment rates in order to equip people with the skills to find employment, and escape poverty.
The reason poverty continues to exist in the US is that many people are unable to gt higher education, and unemployment rates are high. Some people may be educated, but are unable to find full time employment. Another reason for continuing poverty is the unequal distribution of income. Income in the US is highly concentrated among a few, and many are still quite poor, and in debt. Finally, it is also a fact that many marginalised groups like blacks live in poverty due to years of discrimination and backwardness. Lack of education, and social connections further marginalizes and impoverishes them.
