How does practice help learning? What could a trainer do in a training session to ensure that trainees engage in self-regulati

classmate answer:

I LOVE practice. I am a very hands-on learner and flourish when I am able to get into the work and "just do it" when I am the trainee.

According to the text, "for practice to be effective, it needs to involve the trainee actively, include overlearning (repeated practice), take the appropriate amount of time, and include the appropriate unit of learning (amount of material). Practice also needs to be relevant to the training objectives" (Noe, R.A., 2017, p. 179).

Practice helps the information "stick" in a way that only reading material would not allow. Through all of my years training staff, I have learned that well-rounded training is the best way to go. Trainees need to know the what, the why, the who, and the how. They need to hear and see what they are learning, then read about the information, and then get the hands-on experience. When I train employees, I ask what kind of learner they tend to be and then go from there. If someone needs more time seeing the work done, I will spend time showing them more examples and how it is done. If they need to read the material, they will have the time they need. If they need to practice, more time will be spent practicing after reviewing the information and having some brief examples. It completely depends on the trainee and what they need. In line with self-regulation (which I never knew I was doing), after the very first day of training, I always start the day with asking the trainee where they feel we should put more attention. If they feel they have certain aspects down, I will have them move through the process without interruption and then go back with them and let them know how they did and what needed changing, if anything. I will move with them through training as they need and mostly at their speed. Because everyone learns differently and at different paces, it is imperative to have the trainee involved in their training process and helping to set the pace.

Practice is a best way to learn any new topic or subject. It is important to mention that practice along increases the ability and potentiality of a person. With practice a person can sharpen their skills and their skills can then sharpen their ability to learn more and skills and expertise.

Trainers can motivate the trainees in a training session to engage in practicing what they are learning in a training session. This will sharpen and enhance their learning as well as understanding. It is important to highlight with repeated practice, trainees will be able to emphasize more on the self-regulation. With self-regulation, their learning will be more effective and explicit.
