The amount of heat energy removed for lowering the temperature from 35.9 °C to 23.0 °C is given by

q = mcT

where q = amount of heat removed

m = mass of nickel = 12.1 g

c = specific heat of nickel = 0.440 J/g0C

  T = change in temperature = 12.9 oC

Hence q = 12.1 x 0.440 x 12.9

q = 68.68 J
