Ocean pollution is introduction of contaminants into the natural environment of ocean that causes adverse changes which is a major threat to marine life and ocean ecosystems.

Changes can be made on global and individual scales to make a big impact towards preserving the ocean and saving its marine inhabitants.

Changes as a society:

1. Certain products contribute to harming of fragile coral reefs and marine population. As a society, we can avoid pruchasing items such as coral jewelry, tortoise shelled hair accessories (made from hawksbill turtles), and shark products and also by making awareness to other people via communication, posters on notice board of building, etc.
2. Plastics end up as ocean debris contribute to habitat destruction and entangle and kill many marine animals each year. To limit society's impact, everyone should store their food into non-disposable containers, eliminate the usage of plastics for food storage, as dustbin, use reusable bags when shopping, recycle whenever possible. The use of biodegradable plastics should be employed and made available by society.

Individual changes:

1. Help take care of beach and do not pollute it whenever you are visiting one.
2. Support organizations that are working to protect ocean.
3. Eat organic whenever possible to help ultimately limit the demand for chemical pesticides which leach and finally reaches ocean to pollute it.
4. Carbon emissions leads to ocean acidification which harms certain marine life, so better to reduce your share of carbon emission by using car pools or public transport, bicycle, walking

Besides individual and society's contribution is ultimately inter-related as an individual is also a part of society. Hence all individual changes mentioned can also be adopted by a society to help improve ocean environment.
