Hematite and geothite are different types of iron ores.

Hematite is essentially iron(III) oxide with a formula Fe2O3 and exhibiting a trigonal crystal structure.

Geothite has a formula FeOOH and exhibits a monoclinic crystal structure.

In geothite oxygen is linked to the hydroxyl ions in hexagonal layer like arrangement. This source of hydrogen is humidity/moisture. Thus, geothite will be present more in climates that are more cooler and humid. In contrast, hematite will be more prevalent in dry and warm climatic conditions.
