There are several reasons -

1. In genetics we study about genes it is basic unit of genetics if any change occur in genes that leads to various types of disease.

2. It also help in paternity and ancestry of a particular organism.

3. It help in pre - natal diagnosis of humans.

4. It help in identification of various genetic disorder and disease.

5. It also help in understanding of genetic variations. Genetic variation is basis of evolution so it help in understanding of life.

Fruit fly is important for genetic research due to

1. Small size of body.

2. Short life span.

3. Small genome ( 2n=8 ) and large size of chromosomes.

4. It is easily culture in laboratory environment.

5. It produce large no. of eggs.

1. It help in understanding of basic principles of heredity.
