Identify the processes identified by Edward Kamau Brathwaite in his explanation of the development of the Creole Society
Ans.
The term Creole comes from French world 'cre+ole' meaning to raise. Earlier it meant to a person who is born to a white parents and is white by birth but is born and brought up in some European tropical colony. Later is was applied to the languages that are spoken by these (who are mix of black and white and indigenous to that colony) people and they were called creole languages in Caribbean and West Africa.
According to Brathwaite, this term was highly used in Trinidad and Tobago for the black people who are indigenous to that place (i.e. who were born there) and were born to the slave so that they can be distinguished from those who are coming from the East Indian territories.
Hence this society develops by mixing of indigenous people and when they mate with each other (according to Kamau) who are slaves. When they live together in a society, it makes creole society.
